I’m enjoying this crawling/trailing business so much that I thought I’d treat myself to another truck, so ordered this just before Christmas and it finally arrived today 😬

Awesome bit of kit – not sure but that might be the first one on here? Look forward to the build

I think it might be the first but I’m easily confused. I very much look forward to seeing you put this together, Vanquish stuff is fantastic in my albeit limited experience with it.

Started the build today, here’s the progress so far

    0E0708AA-397A-41B1-8E37-C8CC8B45A2C6
    6D7A0E55-B3E5-4BF5-82BE-F1965BBC44B4
    B00351C8-87C6-4DB2-8272-6DC176A0A0CC
Axles are superbly engineered, I would even go so far as to say over engineered and they look great too

    98222D10-C75E-4E68-9895-032C10456129
chassis is simple to put together and super stiff, no twist or flex in it at all

    D3168BF3-68CB-40AA-BCDB-7D66286A7EF1
no chance of stripping these transmission gears, no wonder they don’t bother with a slipper clutch

    A7C9AE10-19B5-4397-A785-BAE4C4A634D3
aluminium bearing retainers in the transmission, so no chance of flex under load

    68B63E83-B612-43D0-B6B3-36AECBD4BB09
    92468CCE-1D5B-459E-82F2-0762FCFAF7BD
    A28E6E89-5A9D-4935-88BB-7AF6ABF83514
access plate on top of the transmission for greasing without removing the whole thing

    1A78B13C-F03A-4F91-A08D-AA1D9480665D
and this is where I’m at, I have to say it goes together so well and easy, everything fits perfectly and is beautifully engineered.

ill continue tomorrow and update the thread.

    thanks for looking.

Went as far as I could today, just wait for my electrics to arrive this week and I can install them and paint it and then it’s finished

going to put the same ESC/motor and servo as I have in the Mog (Hobbywing axe 1800kv and Savox 1272sg 30kg) as I have been really impressed with how they perform. More next weekend.

    thanks for looking

Looks incredible, love the chassis and how enclosed it is. Personally can’t see anything wrong with a bit of chassis flex, full size trucks have some flex in them, so I’ve been told.

Without a slipper clutch I wonder where the break point would be – with a Lipo batt and full bind there has to be something that gives surely? Perhaps the world itself will crumble and give, lol!

I’d be afraid of getting this thing dirty!

That looks like a really enjoyable build, I’m drooling here. Thanks for the nice clear pictures, it looks as though it’s going to have great balance from the get go.

Just saw this on a Reddit thread if you want some paint inspiration!:

Very envious. I’ve been lucky enough to have a look at a couple of these. The bodies are huge.
That scout ii pic looks like wieners sticking out the ground and now I want a hot dog.

Thanks Grasshopper, you are indeed correct, full size trucks do indeed have a bit of chassis flex, I know this because as you can see in the picture below, when my Land Rover is on full articulation, I got out to take the picture and found that the door was difficult to shut, when I pulled clear it shut fine again

as for RC trucks I really don’t have enough experience in crawling/trailing yet to make a valid argument for either, only that all the Americans on YouTube seem to think a stiff chassis is best, but in my opinion it is down to how you like your truck to behave and handle, driving style, suspension set up and weight of vehicle etc etc.

regarding the absence of a slipper clutch in a bind, I can only imagine one of three things will happen, it will either tear the tyres clean off the rims, turn the rock it’s stuck on into dust or rotate the earth 🤣🤣

Thanks Charlie, yes it does feel really well balanced and the centre of gravity is very very low, the motor sits underneath the VFD transmission which places it level with the chassis rails, which I guess is about as low as you can go

There’s a company in the USA who make these decals specifically for this truck but when I tried to buy some at the weekend they said they don’t ship to the UK 😭

Haha! I didn’t think of the tyres, that probably would be the weak point in that situation..

I love your Landy – highly jealous you’ve got a 1:1 AND somewhere to have a play with it. Damn the flat, urban sprawl I was born in!!

Anyway, apologies for the slight derailment; can’t wait to see what you do with the paint

Please don’t get too excited about the paint Grasshopper, it will just be a basic spray job, when it comes to painting I just don’t have the talent to pull off something special 😭 🤣

Got the servo installed and did the paint today, just waiting for the Hobbywing Axe to come back in stock and it’s done and ready for some fun 😬
