    Inspired by Marks thread

I also got a GMade R1 cage along with its associated skid, trays, spacers and screws, there were no instructions so I winged it….it came out ok……I plan to use Axial components for the drive train and have an SXC 10 skid and transmission along with a pair of AR 44 axles….while faffing and staring at it it I realised that the Axial skid is the same width as the GMade, also a couple of mounting holes line up, so I removed the GMade skid and tried it….I think it will work! Only issue is it only fits with out the gearbox pinion gears cover, so I either leave it off or raise the battery tray a few mm…..I think there might even be room for a Hobbywing Fusion motor, which, luckily I have an 1800kv in the parts box, biggest advantage if it fits, is no esc to find a home for as space in the chassis is limited…..when time permits Ill cobble together some links and get the axles mounted and see how it all looks…..the axles can be either fronts or rears, so I could go 4 wheel steer, still undecided…..

That looks great, still plenty of room for electrics and bits. Still no show for me. I sent them an email and they haven’t got stock so are waiting. Not impressed with Fusion Hobbies tbh. On the upside I get to see how you do it.

Well, as usual with a hybrid build, a few steps forward, a few steps back, I fitted the Hobbywing Fusion motor forgetting it is longer than standard by about 10mm, I’d also forgotten that that would cause the end of the motor to foul on one of the suspension links…sigh! I have got round this issue on another truck by putting 4 x 6mm spacers between the gearbox and the skid, but I would like to keep this low COG if possible, so Ill have to dig out a smaller motor fitted at present is an old Axial motor and ESC….suspension links are 4mm threaded brass rod with 5mm brass tube over them, lengths are not quite right, but its a start…..

A change of plan, it could all go wrong, but this is current progress…..

Sacked the AR 44’s and used Bully 2 MOA’s with Axial links……

    4BB9B586-1F17-41BC-9096-AE5512CB6F4A

Had to lose a couple of cross braces to allow link movement, but they have become shock strut braces…..

Mocking up the wiring, I might be able to get some sort of basic interior and a driver in it……chances are the 2 ESC’s will go back to back on the upper rear battery tray, then the battery can go low onto the skid, the rx probably under the (yet to made) bonnet panel, under the front shock brace….

    05158896-1C24-42DF-95DB-E6E9E5DC90F5

Front suspension movement is slightly compromised by the motor fouling the chassis rails, ( about 5mm left on the shocks) so if I can  find some more links, I may end up with the front axle about 20/30mm further forward, but then the front shocks will be too short!

    It an adventure!

    Wow, it’s taking shape.
Are they 2:2’s now? A stupid question but how do you run 2 esc’s? I always figured it’ll be a twin motor esc.

@mark Motor mixing on the tx …..each motor has a separate ESC, each on a separate channel, then you mix the channels on the transmitter so they work in parallel you can then run the motors at different speeds ( overdrive/underdrive) or independently brake one axle for tighter turns on the rocks (dig)…..just ordered longer links for the front end….and yes 2.2’s, it’s pretty big!

Fabricated body panels from 1mm styrene, esc’s are in, it looks like there will be room for a basic interior and driver…which is nice…

looking good! I’ve always had a soft spot for these buggys … If I didn’t have so many half finished projects I might be tempted to build one myself

    A little more progress…

ESC’s are in front one is double sided taped to the underside of the bonnet (hood) panel, while the rear is similarly attached under the rear battery tray

At the front end, the motor (on axle) was colliding with the bottom front corners of the chassis, so a bit  of faffing with long and short link ends has fixed that…

Had a drama with the skid plate, when I tried to remove one of the fixing screws that also doubles and a rod end fixing, for some reason the screw wouldn’t undo and was jammed solid…the nut is semi captive and was rotating…..sigh!….had to dremel the head off the screw and pretty much messed up the skid…bloody annoying, the screw didnt feel cross threaded or in any way odd when I screwed it in, but these things are sent to try us…..a new delrin skid is in the mail…..

One of the body side panels has developed a slight crack at the bend, so that will have to be remade….but Im toying with the idea of a “proper” body…we will see….

    Its looking a bit huge!

Stay tuned for more rock and roll!

New Delrin skid plate arrived today and very nice it is too, unexpected bonus, the lower link are mounted much further inboard that the standard on the edge of the frame, so I have much more steering lock…..

It’s looking great. I noticed the links bind a bit with the scx10 skid. I might have a look for an original one.

More progress…I bought another chassis/cage and painted it, then swapped everything over to it. Also stripped both axles, changed and greased all the bearings then reassembled with Loctite…Its now all wired up, both esc’s beeped when given power….I just need to calibrate them now….need to source Lipos that will fit…nearly there….body panels need work and paint and the wiring needs tidying…

Yellow rocks, didn’t think about painting the cage.
