In a fit of boredom a couple of weeks ago I treated myself to an Element RC Enduro RTR.

With the North Wales,Cheshire,Northwest,Rc Scale & Crawler Facebook Group Funduro weekend coming up I resisted the urge to modify it right out of the box, although I did make a new set of bumpers for it as the stock ones are absolutely the worst I have ever seen.

I also fitted some RC4WD hex adapters and hexes as I didn’t think the palstic one would last very long.

Oh I also did a really dodgy paint job on the out side of the shell as I managed to spill MEK on it and damaged the surface.

Anyway took to Bracken rocks for the funduro, and had an absolute blast, straight out of the box it would go pretty much where ever I pointed it.

I spent the day running with Jonny and his also stock Enduro. We were filmed for a while by Joss for his RC adventures Youtube channel, part 1 of the video can be found here:-

    20190707_09465920190707_09355720190707_100233(0)20190707_10040820190707_10112220190707_11302820190707_14054420190707_144839

After the funduro I wanted to personalize it a bit so I bent up some tube and stuck it together to make another set of bumpers, wheel arch guards and rock sliders.

    This is the result.

Today saw me making a trip over to nr Ilkley to meet up with a couple of people for a run out, however the Ilkley Half marathon had other plans and some couldn’t make it as the roads were closed from about 10am to 1-30pm.

Again running with Jonny and his still stock Enduro we took a run up the moors, the mods I have made to mine haven’t hurt the performance at all (even if I did break a rear shock off the cantilever suspension) and I could make all the lines I wanted.

    20190714_12491520190714_13115720190714_12481920190714_12471620190714_12415920190714_124151

The more I run this, the more I am glad that I bought it.

The next step will be to get a replacement shell and do a good paint job on it and fit a half interior and some inner fenders up front.

    More as it happens.

    Thanks as ever for looking.

Great write up Pete and I really like your tube work.  I keep hearing great things about these and am sorely tempted, I really like the way it looks without the rear bed.

I know the overdrive ratio can be changed, did you leave that stock as well?

    Cheers Charlie.

For the Funduro I ran the stock overdrive, Jonny ran the higher overdrive in his and we felt that his had the slight edge on some climbs. I have since changed mine to the higher ratio and haven’t noticed any down sides.

I have a half interior on it’s way from China once that and a driver figure and some inner fenders are installed I shall be calling this done and enjoying driving it.

This weekend saw the interior going in and a driver added.

So I just need to finish making the inner fenders for the front and the mods will be done for now.

    Thanks as ever for looking.

Excellent truck, great tube work and the battered paint adds to the overall effect.   I’m saving my pennies for one!

I continue to be impressed with the way this tiny truck performs I ran it at the nationals at the beginning of October and yet again it performed really well, the only annoying thing was the fact that I fitted a 13T 5 slot Holmes Hobbies motor as an upgrade for the stock sealed can 16T 5 slot, unfortunately it appears the stock motor is not a 16T turn as the ‘faster’ 13T motor gave noticably lower wheel speed using the stock 18t/87t gearing. Even changing to 18t/56t gearing was still marginally slower. I suspect that the stock motor is closer to 6T than 16T.

Anyway after the nationals I bought a brushless motor for it. Went for a 8.5T motor and geared it down a bit to get a touch more wheel speed than stock.

So for those that were concerned when I took the portals off the Capra, I soon reverted to type and bought a cheap set of SCX10-II portals made by a company called KYX to fit on this.

At first glance they appear to be very well made including having proper bearings for the king pins rather than the normal bushes. Time will tell how good the materials used are. The other nice thing about them is, that they bolt straight on to Element RC front axle casing, yes I had to change the rear casing for a new front one, but all the suspension links fit the steering links need a slight tweek to correct the toe angle. Being bolt on they are also easy to remove and swap back to stock if I want to.

I had to swap out my cheap chinese alloys as they fouled the portal housings, so I went with the kit wheels from the Capra, I just painted them a subtle colour before fitting the stock Element tires.

The rear sits a little higher than I would like and the springs are a little stiff so I shall have to see if I can find some slightly softer ones, but overall I like the stance and the extra clearance under the pumpkins.

All I need to do now is get it out on some trails to see how badly I have hurt the performance.

    Ta for looking,

I’ll update this once I have had a chance to try it out.

They look quite subtle one this. Is there much difference in clearance between these and the Traxxas?

Looking at them both next to each other I would say they give about the same ‘lift’ of the pumpkin.

Nice truck pal,was contemplating getting this or my gelande 2 but the gelande won in the end.but this is definitely my next buy, really like the chassis,it’s a shame you have to replace most the stock bracing for the stiffer plastic upgrades to get a stiff chassis though.
